Folger Director Dr. Farah Karim-Cooper emphasized the importance of the series, stating that it plays a crucial role in how the library fosters engagement with the humanities, allowing people to reflect on their emotions and contribute positively to society. This season features notable poets including Cornelius Eady, Rebecca Lehmann, Matthew Shenoda, and Natalie Diaz.
Cornelius Eady, a National Book Award finalist and co-founder of Cave Canem, will open the series on October 20, 2026. Award-winning poet Rebecca Lehmann will participate in the Emily Dickinson Birthday Tribute Reading on December 8, 2026, alongside selected works of Dickinson. The season concludes with Pulitzer Prize-winner Natalie Diaz on June 8, 2027.
Dr. Karim-Cooper noted that the season aligns with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of community and connection. The series promotes literary fellowship and diverse voices, reflecting King's legacy of creativity and transformative change.
In addition to the main series, the Folger will introduce a Poetry Kickoff event featuring DC poet María Fernanda on August 21, 2026, as well as an annual community event, "Not Just Another Day Off," on January 17, 2027, with a screening of the documentary *Something for the People*.
Subscriptions for the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series are currently available, with a full season subscription priced at $75 and online options starting at $30. Additional ticket options, including flex passes and single tickets, will be available this summer.
The O.B. Hardison Poetry Series, recognized for its outstanding poets, continues to engage the Washington community through poetry and the humanities.
