The Belfast-born songwriter will present Written To Be Read Quickly, which features nearly 50 poems edited by Belfast novelist Robert McLiam Wilson. This collection is published by Belfast studio Arthouse in both paperback and limited-edition hardback formats, showcasing a blend of wit, reflection, and contemporary observations.
During the performance, White will also introduce songs from his forthcoming album, a love story, in addition to selections from his extensive four-decade music catalog. His career began with the release of Rave On Andy White in 1986, following his debut EP, Religious Persuasion, the year prior. This historical context will be explored further in a new podcast series he is launching, which focuses on the making and legacy of his first album, with the first episode airing on October 4.
White's notable works include songs like “Religious Persuasion”, “James Joyce’s Grave”, and “Another Sunny Day”. His career reflects an integration of music and literature, with his previously published poetry collections including The Music Of What Happens (1999) and Stolen Moments (2011).
In 2024, White completed a practice-based PhD at the University of Tasmania, culminating in the album Good Luck I Hope You Make It. His latest release, a live album titled The Night Is Approaching Though Some Would Say It Was Morning, was recorded at Abbey Road Studio Two on July 14, 2023.
White’s career has spanned international stages, including festivals like Glastonbury and WOMAD, while he maintains a strong connection to Melbourne where he resides.
The performance on November 12 promises a celebration of both his past work and new creative ventures. Tickets are available through Andy White’s website and Eventbrite.
