Upcoming Bookish Retreat in West Chester Focuses on Readers

The Future Famous Authors Bookish Retreat, organized by Massachusetts novelist JB Harris, is designed to celebrate reading rather than writing, distinguishing it from traditional writing retreats. "I wanted to create the kind of weekend I would love to attend myself," said Harris, who is the founder of Future Famous Authors.

The retreat will feature three authors: JB Harris, author of The Immigrant’s Wife; Kris Schaale, who wrote The Summer of Meteors; and Sherry Knowlton, co-author of American Roulette. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the authors, attend discussions, and enjoy a panel dinner.

Guests will explore several independent bookstores, including Baldwin’s Book Barn, Bookmarks and Leaves, and Lore. At Baldwin’s Book Barn, known for its historic character and vast collection, attendees will have a unique literary experience, with each bookstore preparing special activities for the group.

The retreat seeks to enhance participants' reading lives by introducing them to new titles and showcasing West Chester’s independent bookstore community. Additionally, it allows attendees to explore the borough’s shops and dining options.

Accommodations are available at the Book House Hotel, a boutique hotel themed around literature, and Hotel Indigo, both of which are not sponsors of the retreat.

This event is inclusive, welcoming individual readers without requiring prior membership in a book club. It is designed for those who share a passion for literature, encouraging informal conversations and independent reading in a relaxed atmosphere.

Harris emphasized that this retreat is part of a movement aimed at introducing readers to lesser-known but talented authors, hoping to facilitate meaningful conversations and lasting connections in a focused environment.
