Living in Los Angeles with her husband, daughter, and a cat, Curry holds a master’s degree in public health and has taught human sexuality, experiences that enrich her storytelling. In her latest book, a human sexuality professor must collaborate with her childhood crush to organize a sexual health event, but their plans are complicated by opposition from her conservative parents and the university’s major donors.

In this interview, Curry shares her favorite novels, her journey as an author, and the inspiration behind Love Between Lectures.

Curry cites a variety of literary influences, particularly enjoying rom-coms and thrillers. Among her favorites are The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren, You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle, and Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding, with Savannah Royals by Lindsay Barrett being a standout for its unique blend of romantic suspense and heist elements.

She discovered her aspiration to write while crafting poems in her youth and taking a creative writing class in college. Yet, it wasn’t until 2021 that she began writing seriously. The impending release of her debut novel feels surreal to her.

The idea for Love Between Lectures originated from a memorable teaching experience. While distributing condoms at a campus event, she was unexpectedly featured in an article holding a sex toy, an incident that reignited her creative spark years later.

When asked what she appreciates most about the romance genre, Curry highlighted the elements of yearning and tension, alongside the thrill of happy endings, which offer an escape from reality.

She particularly enjoyed writing specific scenes, though she refrained from revealing spoilers, noting that chapter one’s meet cute was especially fun to craft.

Currently, Curry is reading It’s All in Your Head by Sabina Nordqvist, which she describes as witty and representative. Her to-be-read list includes Love, Witches, and Wahala by Christine Cowan, The Grace Year by Kim Liggett, and Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer.
