Sapkowski, who communicated via email alongside David French, the English translator for *Crossroads of Ravens*, expressed enthusiasm for exploring Geralt's formative years. His experiences are portrayed through moments of panic and quick decision-making that showcase his growth. Sapkowski noted the challenge of capturing the mindset of an 18-year-old, acknowledging that personal memories from his youth helped in this portrayal.

The novel illustrates Geralt's vulnerabilities which contrast with the omnipotence typically associated with his character. "Despite all the infallibility resulting from his mutation, I gave Geralt some imperfections and susceptibility to err," Sapkowski stated.

He identified the main differences between the younger Geralt in *Crossroads of Ravens* and his older self from the main saga as rooted in a lack of experience and moral development. He likened the youthful Geralt's journey to a classic rite of passage, a common theme in fantasy narratives.

Regarding the dynamics between Geralt and his mentor Preston Holt, Sapkowski noted that while Holt serves as a surrogate father figure, he is ultimately a complex character with deceitful traits, differing from other mentor figures like Vesemir.

Sapkowski also discussed the narrative differences between full-length novels and short stories, referencing Isaac Asimov’s comparison of the two formats. The author expressed his desire to explore Geralt's early years further in future prequel books, saying, "Sky is the limit."

He remains open to unconventional adaptations of his work, including stage productions and musicals. Sapkowski commented that while the Witcher franchise has expanded into various media, the core of the series remains his novels. He emphasized the importance of maintaining character dialogue's authenticity when translating between languages.

*Crossroads of Ravens*, along with other Witcher titles, showcases Sapkowski’s commitment to character depth and narrative complexity, as he continues to develop Geralt's story in new and engaging ways.
