MELBOURNE, VIC — William Owens, an American poet, author, playwright, and percussionist, experienced a significant setback during his global tour when his bicycle was stolen in Brunswick early this morning. This bicycle has been his main mode of transportation throughout his nine-year journey, which began in the United States with a 1,000-mile ride from Nevada to Texas and has expanded to include locations like the Philippines, Australia, and Vietnam.

Owens arrived in Melbourne from Vietnam approximately 90 days ago on a tourist visa, which he has since renewed to continue his travels. Throughout his time in Melbourne, he has performed at various local venues such as Lay Low Bar and The Motley Bar and participated in a local poetry contest.

In response to the theft and to fund the next phase of his journey—a planned 750-mile (approximately 1,200 km) ride from Melbourne to Sydney—Owens is releasing his third digital poetry collection titled *Authenticity Unleashed: Poetic Expressions of a Heart Set Free*. The collection aims to express the realities of life's challenges while highlighting themes of hope, love, and faith.

To aid in his recovery from the theft, Owens has initiated a crowdfunding campaign. Supporters contributing any amount will receive:

• A digital copy of *Authenticity Unleashed*

• Access to embedded QR links with videos, audio, and personal commentary

• Entry to his Unhinged Heart video series

Owens is seeking to raise approximately $2,800, with plans to begin his journey towards Sydney on October 19, 2026. More information about his story is available at newbike.oftheheartpoet.com.

Trek Bicycle Maribyrnong has recommended a Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 in size M/L for him to continue his travels. The manager, Tony Keratianos, expressed eagerness to assist Owens, who had previously utilized their services for his stolen Trek 920.
