Applications for the National Literary Translation Mentorships are open until November 11, 2026, and are welcomed from translators at all stages of their careers, whether aspiring, emerging, or established. The program facilitates translation between French and English, specifically offering the Jean Antonin Billard Mentorship for English-to-French work and the Karin L. Montin Mentorship for French-to-English projects.
Under the previous mentorship program operated by LTAC and QWF from 2022 to 2026, one mentorship was offered annually, alternating between the two languages. With UNEQ's involvement, both mentorships will run simultaneously starting in 2027.
QWF highlights the importance of this initiative in advancing the careers of promising translators. Karin L. Montin was a successful freelance translator, editor, and educator, while Jean Antonin Billard, born in Tours, France, in 1930, won a Governor General’s Literary Award for his translation of Dorothy Livesay’s work.
