Hero Magnus and Magus Magnus will perform in Old Town at Galactic Panther, featuring a night of poetry and music. Hero Magnus, a singer-songwriter, is returning to her hometown to promote her debut album, "How Do You Leave a Warm Dark Place." Now based in Brooklyn, she began her music career in Alexandria, emerging from the Washington, DC hardcore scene where she worked at the Inner Ear studio and opened for punk bands. While attending Yale, she released her first EP, "Make Me a Man," which focuses on queer love and desire through adaptations of ancient myths. Her current album, a blend of indie rock and indie folk, explores themes of new beginnings and the transient nature of comfort, childhood, and home. The album was produced by James Duncan and mastered by Heather Jones, and has supported her tour across the East Coast, including cities like New Orleans and San Francisco, since its April release.

Magus Magnus, a poet, has recently released his latest book, "The Killing Joke," through BlazeVOX. In this work, he engages the Trickster Archetype, examining three main subjects: the post-punk band Killing Joke, the Joker-centric Batman graphic novel by Alan Moore, and a sketch from the first episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. The narrative presents the trickster as a jester, an Evil Clown, and as a symbol of death, encapsulated in the idea that the final laugh is on us. Comedian Tig Notaro remarked on Magnus' work, stating, "This book is just more proof that comedy can kill. And has."
This performance marks a unique collaboration between father and daughter as they celebrate the release of their new projects.
