Garmus expressed excitement about the release, noting that completing the book was important for her while she was on tour for her debut. She mentioned not feeling additional pressure while writing. "I never even considered that pressure while I was writing 'Peck & Peck,'" Garmus stated, indicating that the success of her first novel never felt entirely real to her.

"Peck & Peck" tells the story of Batter Gray, who struggles with his identity as a poet despite excelling in math and accounting. He navigates the competitive world of poetry, facing the challenges of working for the Peck brothers, editors of the prestigious journal. Garmus explained that her character reflects feelings of not fitting in, something she believes many, especially in the arts, can relate to.

The author stated that her goal is to reassure readers about pursuing their artistic passions. "It's common to wonder why one didn’t follow their heart and do what they wanted," she reflected. In contrast to her earlier character, Elizabeth Zott, Batter's journey is one of self-discovery, requiring him to confront his insecurities and embrace his poetic identity.

"He doesn’t feel like he’s good enough to be a poet," Garmus said, adding that the book explores concepts of integrity and personal growth. The narrative begins with Batter in prison, facing the repercussions of his choices.

Set in 1982 New York City, during a time of rising crime, "Peck & Peck" captures the struggles of a recent college graduate trying to find his place in a literary landscape dominated by fierce competition. Garmus emphasizes the importance of integrity and standing up for one’s beliefs, stating that sometimes making significant changes in life is necessary to reclaim one’s identity.

Garmus resides in England and continues to inspire readers with her new work, which blends humor and poignant themes.
