Lemus, a poet and educator based in South Los Angeles, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Bennett College and later received a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California. Her collection, published by World Stage Press in November 2022, addresses themes of grief and celebration, as well as contemporary issues such as racial and gender-based violence and gentrification.
The collection showcases Lemus’ ability to blend serious politics with emotional depth, encouraging readers to find joy amidst sorrow. Her work draws inspiration from the Black Arts Movement and aims to be accessible to everyday readers.
In addition to her literary pursuits, Lemus will join Bennett College as a faculty member, where she will teach a course titled “Writing in Communion: Exploring the Inner Artist.”
The public is invited to participate in the online book launch event at www.Bennett.edu/LIVE. *Dreaming in Mourning* is available for purchase on Amazon and through the publisher, World Stage Press.
