Austin pastor and author Tom Goodman has released his second historical novel, “Through Many Dangers,” which sheds light on a remarkable chapter in East Texas history. The book tells the true story of Rev. Jesse Lee, who led the First Methodist Church in Groveton during the early 20th century. At that time, Groveton, the seat of Trinity County, was a thriving timber town, notorious for its bootlegging operations, as well as gambling and prostitution, despite being designated as a dry area by its residents.
