Executive publisher Isabel Wall secured UK and Commonwealth rights from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein, representing Julie Barer at The Book Group. US rights were acquired by Whitney Frick at The Dial Press, while Canadian rights went to Sue Kuruvilla and Sarah St Pierre at Random House Canada. The novel is set to be published in hardback, e-book, and audio formats in June 2027.
The storyline centers on two friends in 1960s New Jersey who decide to buy a plot of land in a forest to create a cul-de-sac with six houses, envisioning a safe and idyllic community for their families. Their dream is initially fulfilled, but a sudden tragedy disrupts their lives and tests the relationships among the adults involved.
Described by Viking as an “incandescent, multigenerational story of forgiveness and loss,” the novel addresses themes of community, resilience, and the nurturing power of care. Wall praised Napolitano’s work for its perceptive prose, stating it is a privilege to publish such a moving narrative.
Napolitano expressed her excitement about the partnership with Viking, hoping readers will connect with the characters and the world she has created.
