In late October 2026, Amazon rebranded its long-standing e-book subscription service, Kindle Unlimited, to Kindle+. Initially launched in 2014 for $9.99, Kindle Unlimited started with over 600,000 titles and 2,000 e-books. The newly rebranded Kindle+ now boasts over 5 million e-books along with an extensive collection of audiobooks, comics, manga, and magazines, for a monthly fee of $11.99. While the name has changed, the service’s core offering remains largely the same, enhancing its focus on the increasing popularity of audiobooks.

The updated Kindle+ will feature AI narration for select titles, using Amazon's Virtual Voice, currently in beta as part of the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform for authors, according to ZDNet. Although AI technology has garnered mixed reactions, its implementation in Kindle+ could potentially broaden access to audiobooks and provide improved accessibility options, while easing the publishing process for authors.
Importantly, the price of the rebranded Kindle+ remains at $11.99, and it will continue to be a distinct subscription service from Amazon Prime. Users can still borrow up to 20 books, and the global availability of the service is unchanged. Other than the addition of AI narration, subscribers can expect a similar experience to that of Kindle Unlimited. This move toward incorporating AI narration aligns with similar developments at Amazon's Audible, which has faced legal challenges with publishers over AI narration, and with Spotify, which partnered with ElevenLabs for its own audiobook narration features in 2025. Additionally, earlier in October, Amazon announced new Kindle devices, including the Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft, along with several accessories for 2026.
