Rajesh Tailang Discusses Role in 'Bakaiti' Season 2 and Acting Philosophy

In Bakaiti, Tailang portrays a father facing financial struggles, and while he isn't at the center of every comedic moment, he reacts to the absurdities around him. He acknowledges that comedy can be challenging: "It is tough to cheat in comedy. You can instantly know if it’s working or not,” he stated, recalling his experience in theatre comedy. He emphasized that while results matter in comedy, the process is crucial in dramatic roles. “What is important in both is adaptability,” he said, highlighting his collaboration with co-star Sheeba Chadha.

The pair, who have previously played couples in Mirzapur and Bandish Bandits, bring a new dynamic to their relationship in Bakaiti, emphasizing intimacy in their characters’ interactions. Tailang frequently portrays father figures, adding depth to characters in projects like Mukkabaaz and Delhi Crime. He believes that each character deserves a distinct portrayal rather than being defined solely by their role as a father.

Tailang views all individuals as heroes of their own stories, which allows him to add complexity and humanity to his performances. His recent poetry collection, Chaand Pe Chai, published in 2022, reflects a similar simplicity and depth. He stated that his dual identity as a poet and actor influences his craft: "The poet in me helps the actor in me and the actor in me helps the poet."

He elaborated on the connection between thought and emotion, explaining that he focuses on a character's thoughts rather than just their feelings. Tailang believes this approach fosters a deeper understanding of his roles, emphasizing continuous personal and professional growth in his acting journey. He concluded by expressing his ongoing quest for knowledge, stating, "I have not had my E = mc² moment yet.” Bakaiti season 2 is set to premiere on September 25, 2026.
