Participants can compete for cash prizes of $100 for first place and $50 for second place.
Danny Burl, a Pine Bluff native and founder of Good Game Entertainment, will serve as the host. His record label includes artists from places as varied as Chicago, Atlanta, and Arkansas.
The event invites poets, aspiring writers, and spoken-word enthusiasts aged 15 and older to either perform or watch local talent. The evening will kick off with an open mic segment, allowing participants to share their original poetry and spoken word pieces.
Following the open mic, competitors will have the opportunity to showcase their work in the poetry slam for a chance to win prizes. Burl, who holds a master’s degree and works as a full-time electrical engineer, began his artistic journey in spoken word and later evolved into rap, using personal experiences and storytelling to engage audiences.
Burl's passion for music was nurtured by his upbringing; his mother sang and his father was a DJ. His fascination with spoken word began in high school after being inspired by a guest artist's performance.
The community is encouraged to participate in this celebration of creativity. Bethany Gere, the theater manager, emphasized the inviting atmosphere: “Whether you’re ready to compete, share a few lines, or sit back and enjoy the talent, come be part of an evening where words take center stage.”
Interested participants can register at artx3.org/all-events/the-write-stuff or sign up on the day of the event. For more details, contact Bethany Gere at [email protected] or call 870-536-3375.
